I haven’t really done anything that important.

No one will care.

Everyone will think I have a big head!

I’m not a good writer, I don’t have the right credentials, I’m not x,y,z...

I should stay in my lane. Publishing a book is for bigger, more important people.

Who do I think I am?

Sound familiar?

This soundtrack circles through all people’s heads as they ponder whether or not to write their stories down. Even those who seem to have confidence to spare have moments when they doubt themselves. Which is good news! If even the Dolly Partons of the world wonder if they matter—and they do both wonder and matter—then so do the rest of us. Cue the party horns!

Why celebrate? Because if there’s a dark, worried side in everyone, everyone also has an inner kid who just learned to ride their bike and wants to tell the tale of bravery. Doesn’t that kid deserve to be recognized? Doesn't your adult self have things to say that will be valuable to know in 50 years? Because life is so challenging and varied, most people have a story to tell that hasn't been told before. And it's okay to want to capture it!

If you kind of want to tell your story, that is reason enough. You get to write your book because your story matters. Full stop.

If you need help, I am here to help you figure it out.

I’ll even write you a permission slip if you need one.

Handwritten permission note reads: To whom it may concern: This Important Person has the right to write their story!
